The context

Oakley Capital Investments (‘OCI’) is a FTSE250 listed company, offering public investors access to Oakley's private equity (PE) portfolio and the returns it generates.

Oakley's corporate reporting is a crucial tool for stakeholder engagement, building trust in the business and understanding of its investment case. A key part of Oakley's IR strategy is to improve understanding of its PE value creation model through better communications.

Oakley is a leading investor in digitisation and technology businesses, and they need their reporting and investor communications to reflect this.

The challenge

High quality reporting communications is crucial to Oakley's strategy, but they face the same challenges as many reporters – following Board sign-off, the results announcement, report launch and ESEF filing must be completed the next morning.

Regulators have highlighted the limitations of print software for creating the ESEF format. As the FRC says, ‘iXBRL is a web format, not like print or PDF.’

In addition to this, Oakley's print quantity had reduced significantly – by 2023, it became clear that print software limitations should no longer dictate reporting processes.

These are digital challenges. Oakley needed a digital solution.

The solution

In order to meet Oakley's goals, from 2023, reporting agency Friend Studio moved its design process to Reportl.

This transition to digital reporting software was simple for the Oakley team, and brought many benefits including more efficient processes and enhanced engagement across all formats.

Crucially, Reportl solved the technical, process and compliance limitations of print design software.

Using Reportl, Oakley delivered the full suite of report formats from a single system, with all formats ready to launch at sign-off.
